Live to the Spirit World Sugar Hill Sessions Spike and Kar: Lecture on The Blanks

Continuing a storm of reissues for 2008, The Blanks present remasters of all their 1988 audio releases. First, we have the restored Live to the Spirit World. This marks Mr. Ed's first recording – and public appearance – as a Blank. This historic recording also captures the band's hits up to this point. (Note that the video has yet to be reissued... but it may show up soon.)

Next, we have the remastered Sugar Hill Sessions, featuring the entire Kill Me Hot Chocolate and Bean Monster Rituals albums. Originally released in 1998, this reissue brings The Blanks first CD release up to date with the other modern reissues – in terms of sonic and package quality. Of course, the 1998 “Phuong Nam's (Remix)” bonus track is included.

Finally, for the first time available to the public, Blanks Enterprise presents Spike and Kar's Lecture on The Blanks. This is a famous presentation the two gave as a retrospective of the band's career. Thinking The Blanks were finished by 1988, the audience of university students had tons of questions and were ecstatic at the thought of more music from “The Greatest Rock Band of ALL Time” (as they were billed by the host student club “The Organization for the Appreciation of the Disco Train Donny Osmond Album”).

July 2007
Joy Of Chicken / Lasagna Sampler / See It Through Blanks Tour the Mall

The Blanks continue momentum of classic reissues with two new compact discs. The first collects three “rarities” releases – Joy Of Chicken, Lasagna Sampler, and See It Through (EP). Each features outtakes, alternate versions, and exclusive material. The first two albums were released around major, breakthrough albums. This Joy Of Chicken / Lasagna Sampler / See It Through release has the industry wondering if Sweet Love is coming soon (mimicking the original release of Lasagna Sampler as a preview to the critically acclaimed double-album Sweet Love).

Also, Blanks Tour the Mall was quietly released on compact disc earlier in the Summer. This limited reissue follows The Blanks (pre-Ed line-up) engaging with mall patrons in discussions of music, pop culture, and politics. It falls into the band's “challenging listens” category alongside Blanks II.

[to top] New Music Celebrates Two Decades of Rock 'n' Roll
December 10, 2002
China Cabinet Oracle On the heels of Destroy These Cakes, The Blanks have done it again. As they always have. As we've come to expect. For twenty years. That's right, twenty years of hard-hitting, non-stop, monster truck, rock 'n' roll. You may remember the first time you heard The Blanks, be it “Eggheads,” “Let's Vomit,” or another hit. Well, the boys have done it again. This time with a new hit single appropriately titled the “Twentieth Anniversary Single.” How can you go wrong with a song that starts “That's how we rocked it!?” It's a catchy tune that's sure to become a rock anthem.

The single appears on China Cabinet Oracle, a collection of five new hard-hitting tracks. “Little Know” and “Lucky” are sure to become follow-on hits. And the next chapter in break-up songs, “Farewell to The Blanks VI,” undoes every Blanks theme imaginable. This song spells out the End for The Blanks, but we've heard it before ... five times. The song promises no more music (even re-issues) and the End to the website. Last checked, the website was up. And industry rumors place Kar in the mastering studio preparing a re-release of some old favorites. Finally, “Space Needle” provides a short blast of rock 'n' roll kitsch, reminiscent of “I'll Run to You” from the Full Moon Sessions.

Find out more about the “Twentieth Anniversary Single” and China Cabinet Oracle at theblanks.com.
