[to top] Band Memoirs

This is a collection of all surviving music tracks from 1984. (Note that the Insanity Plea: The Untold Story spoken word album was also released in 1984.) Like 1983, this was a very productive time for The Blanks. There was, however, much disappointment around this time; several classic recordings from the year were accidentally lost or destroyed - the albums American Dream and Doom's Day Celebration and most of Live At Bibby's Show Palace. For a while we had even lost Where's The Phone?, but it was found and rescued from destruction.

The songs on this reissue are tremendous. They show a change in direction from the first four Blanks albums. There was more craftsmanship given to each song and each album. New Year's In Tokyo was structured around much-hyped individual songs and singles. It was also the first time it took more than a day or two to write and finish the album.

In 1984, musician Christopher Araha Arohadej was in and out of the band a number of times. In fact I believe he officially joined and official quit during the making of New Year's In Tokyo. We reunited with him for 10 Minute Tape At Chris's even though he had recently denounced the band. By the time we recorded the lost albums and Where's The Phone? later in 1984; Ran, Spike, and I were the official line-up. It wasn't until we started collaborating with Mr. Ed that we found a like-minded musician who really shared our vision.

Finally, it's nice that we can present two surviving songs from Live At Bibby's Show Palace. That was a great concert and these are two great tracks from that event.
