Tensions surrounding The Blanks eventually lessened, and we started lamenting the lost music from '84. We also knew that A Turn... And A Halt was starting to ebb in popularity. The fans hadn't really realized that we had even broken up and began asking when we were going to come out with something new. We decided our latest farewell project would be what we could remember of the lost songs and a new farewell song. That's where the Vintage Blanks Sampler comes from. As with almost everything since '86, we were still thinking of this as a one-time project. It was all about leaving a good legacy or giving something back to our fans. Actually, I guess since '85 we hadn't really thought of ourselves as a working and functional band.
