1987: First issue, cassette single, Blanks Enterprises
Band Memoirs
By the end of '87, Ran had gone out to LA, and we hadn't been together for quite a while. When we met up again, the creative juices were flowing and we came up with Marta's in the Navy. It was a song so pop and such an instant hit that we reacted with Tribute to Insanity Plea. While as a band we hadn't really done much, our latest music seemed to be a hit no matter what. We felt like sometimes we were only appreciated because it was hip to like The Blanks, or that sometimes certain fans thought of us only as a cutesy novelty act. So we wanted to get raw and unrefined by doing something like Tribute to Insanity Plea.
By this time, we didn't even bother with a farewell project. We were just done. No announcement or anything. That was it.
Spike
I was laughing so hard during the recording of Marta's in the Navy, that I could barely control my hands. But I held on, because it was such a good take, and we were not in the habit of recording second takes in those days.
