[to top] Band Memoirs

This edition of A Turn... and a Halt includes new versions of the “Intro” and “Dead Tomato.” Like the first one, our intent was to offer fans a “final something” – we were no longer a working band.

This also partly served as a Blanks Enterprises offering, including two non-Blanks songs – one Ran solo and one Revelations. I always liked these songs and thought it'd be nice to include on a career retrospective. In hindsight, it makes no sense. If there's ever a CD edition of this album, I'll probably combine the two editions of A Turn ... and a Halt and leave off the non-Blanks songs.

Finally, there's been some confusion about the dates of various A Turn... and a Halt and “Let's Vomit” versions. As of 2008, I think the discography now accurately reflects reality, as close as we knew it. In preparing for the CD remaster of a combined edition, I discovered that this 2nd Edition actually includes the original version of “Let's Vomit” rather than “Let's Vomit '87” as previously thought. This indicates that the 2nd edition was almost surely compiled between "Dead Tomato (1986)" and "Let's Vomit '87". Given the timing of all these recordings, I believe A Turn... and a Halt (2nd Edition) was released in 1986.

As I say in my A Turn... And A Halt (1st Edition) notes, I'm very pleased that we reissued the complete track list on A Turn... And A Halt (Complete Edition). To listen to this version as it was released, I encourage you to program your CD player or make a playlist with (e.g., in iTunes) with the tracks in this original order.
