This album is basically a farewell compilation. With the popularity of “Let's Vomit,” “Marta Rules,” and all the songs from New House, we felt that by packaging them with a full-length album they would get even more attention. We included the original songs from Live at Bibby's Show Palace. This album is kind of controversial in a way because we also included a Revelations song [as a hidden bonus track]. By now, though, the Revelations had changed their name to Just Add Water. “Are You Having Your Period?” appeared on this Blanks album and many people made the mistake of thinking it was a Blanks song. I think one version of A Turn and a Halt also had some Ran solo songs on it.

This album didn't really have anything original recorded for it. I think from this point until the very end of 1987, The Blanks were in chaos and a period of turmoil. A Turn and a Halt was really a way to present some of our best and most popular songs in a full-length album format. This would be the album that the music world would remember us by, now that we were done with The Blanks. Thus the overly obvious title – A Turn (new sound) and a Halt (we were done).
